Ms. Thomas

Dean of Students, Grades 4-6

Ms. Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Appalachian State University and a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon University. She has been working in various roles in Education since 1995. She spent nineteen years in the classroom working with low-income students in kindergarten through grade 5. In this role she developed a passion for ensuring every student discovered a love for learning that would carry them through college and beyond.

Ms. Thomas then became a Literacy Facilitator and Academic Coach in Charlotte, North Carolina. She wrote all curriculum and supported teachers and students in data-driven instruction and literacy development. She now serves as a Dean at BASIS Independent Manhattan where she supports students, teachers, and parents. She believes that all children can grow and succeed in their ambitions. She chose BASIS Independent Manhattan because she knows that each educator here is dedicated to delivering a rigorous, challenging, and rewarding education experience to every child. 

In her free time, she loves to travel within the United States. She enjoys kayaking and long road trips. It is her goal to drive through every state, and she has travelled through 30 so far.
