Mr. Wallschlaeger grew up in central Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin Marathon Center (UWMC) where he majored in Psychology. While there, he received the Congressmen David Obey Leadership Award, the UWMC Citizen Award, the UW August Derleth Award for Creative Writing, and he was published as first author in Current Psychology on the topic of Dyslexic research. Later, Mr. Wallschlaeger retured to work as their campus Student Life and Residence Hall Director. He spent three years in the Marine Corps reserve, lived in Instanbul, and dealt Blackjack at a casino on a Mohican reservation. While starting his own business, which he ran for ten years, Mr.Wallschlaeger took time to help with the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. He is still active in community emergency response groups.
