Ms. Woo has student-taught at the Manhattan New School and the Brooklyn New School, and worked as a reading coach at the Manhattan West School. For the past three years, she has taught students with special needs, ages five to 10, at private and public schools in Manhattan.
Ms. Woo took her undergraduate studies at the State University of New York-Geneseo, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and is now completing a Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education and Special Education at the Bank Street College of Education.
Currently, Ms. Woo is a 3rd grade Learning Expert Teacher at BASIS Independent Brooklyn that strives to make learning easy and fun by making their classroom experiences meaningful and relevant to who they are. She applies this philosophy to academics and social/emotional difficulties that students may face during their day to day school lives. Her ultimate goal is to help students take ownership of their learning through discipline and hard work, not out of obligation.
“When not in the classroom, I often find myself writing at night about anything that might be entertaining my mind at that moment. Taking walks around my neighborhood, Prospect Park, and the promenade have recently been added to my favorite things to do. My true passion, however, lies in cooking food from various cultures and exploring new ingredients. On a larger scale, I love jet-setting around the world with my husband – who loves to share his stories from traveling to more than 50 countries, and trying exciting cuisines that we can’t buy in Brooklyn,” says Ms. Woo.
