In 2002, Ms. Moriarty graduated cum laude from Harvard University with a Bachelor’s degree in Extension Studies concentrating on English Literature. While at Harvard, she minored in visual arts and was consistently on the Dean’s list. After working for three years in the publishing industry, she was awarded a merit scholarship at The New School, and in 2007 earned a Master’s of Fine Arts in Fiction Writing.
As a Subject Expert Teacher in English at BASIS Independent Manhattan for grades 4, 5, and 6, she encourages students to find joy in the material and confidence within themselves. Ms. Moriarty uses multiple learning strategies that center on creative and critical thinking to help students discover their strengths and individual paths to success. She chose to teach at BASIS Independent Manhattan because of its unique combination of academic rigor and innovation.
When she is not teaching, she focuses on her writing. She has written for multiple blogs and serves as the Managing Editor of A Child Grows in Brooklyn. Her first novel, NORTH HAVEN, is being released in June, 2017. She also loves exploring Prospect Park with her seven-year-old daughter, her husband, and dog, Woofy.
